This Privacy Policy describes how Literary Reserve LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), operating as ShelfMatch, collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you use the ShelfMatch application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By using ShelfMatch, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

  • Email address, provided when you sign up via email form or through Google OAuth authentication.
  • Display name and profile photo, if provided through your Google account or set manually.

Reading Preferences and Library Data

  • Books you rate, save, dismiss, or add to your library.
  • Genre preferences and taste profile selections made during onboarding or quiz interactions.
  • Reading history and library organization data.

Behavioral Data

  • Clicks, saves, dismissals, and interactions with recommended books.
  • Pages visited, features used, and time spent within the Service.
  • Search queries and filter selections.

Device and Technical Information

  • IP address, browser type, and user agent string.
  • Device type, operating system, and screen resolution.
  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 6 below).

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Account Management: To create and maintain your account, authenticate your identity, and provide customer support.
  • Personalization: To build and refine your taste profile so we can surface books that match your reading preferences.
  • Recommendation Engine: To power our matching technology, which uses embedding-based similarity analysis to connect you with books you are likely to enjoy. Your ratings and interactions improve the quality of your matches over time.
  • Analytics: To understand how users interact with ShelfMatch, identify popular features, diagnose technical issues, and improve the Service.
  • Email Communications: To send transactional messages (account confirmations, password resets) and, if you opt in, marketing emails about new features, curated reading lists, and promotions. You may unsubscribe at any time.
  • Fraud Prevention and Security: To detect and prevent unauthorized access, abuse, and fraudulent activity.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the following service providers, who process it on our behalf:

4. Data Retention

  • Active Accounts: Your personal information is retained for as long as your account remains active.
  • Deleted Accounts: When you delete your account, we anonymize or remove your personal data within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for analytical purposes.
  • Event Logs: Behavioral event logs (clicks, page views, interactions) are retained on a rolling 12-month basis and then automatically purged.

5. Your Rights (California Residents - CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to Know: You may request a copy of the personal information we have collected about you in the preceding 12 months.
  • Right to Delete: You may request that we delete your personal information. We will comply within 45 days, subject to legal exceptions.
  • Right to Correct: You may request that we correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell your personal information to third parties. No opt-out is required, but you may still submit a request for confirmation.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.

Essential cookies are required for the Service to function. Optional cookies are only set with your consent via our cookie banner. You may manage your cookie preferences at any time through the cookie settings link in the footer.

7. Children's Privacy

ShelfMatch is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@literaryreserve.com.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you via the email address associated with your account at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Non-material changes (such as formatting or clarification) may be made without notice. The "Effective Date" at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
